A Lasting Power of Attorney is a document that officially recognises someone who can make financial and healthcare decisions for you if you are no longer able to.
People can find themselves unable to manage their financial affairs and healthcare decisions at any time of their life; having a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) in place can ensure that your affairs are managed properly should the worst happen.
There are two types of LPAs available:
A Property and Affairs Lasting Power of Attorney gives someone you trust the authority to deal with your property and finances, for example paying bills and managing your budget.
A Health and Welfare Lasting Power of Attorney allows your chosen representative to make healthcare decisions on your behalf, but only if you no longer have the capacity to do so.
Jarmans Solicitors can help guide you through the process of creating an LPA, advising you on choosing a suitable and trustworthy attorney, drafting and signing paperwork, and registering your LPAs with the Office of the Public Guardian. Our professional team can also train your chosen attorney, educating them on their duties and responsibilities.
Should you find yourself in a position where you don’t have a trusted friend or relative who is suitable to be your attorney, our partners can also act as your attorney in respect of property and financial affairs.
